Phlebotomy

On completion of this 51-hour course, students should be able to follow universal precautions, tie tourniquets, identify veins, and demonstrate knowledge and use of necessary equipment necessary for drawing blood. Students will be able to identify appropriate tubes and labels for tests, prep the site, perform venipuncture and finger sticks, and administer bedside glucose. The student is not certified after this course--in order to qualify for a cetrifying exam the student must complete 100 blood draws and 25 finger sticks. Prerequisite: Medical Terminology with minimum grade of C. Lab coat and closed toed shoes must be worn at all times.

Students will learn medical terminology by analyzing the prefix, suffix, word roots, and combinations used in medical terms. This course is for students who want to understand basic medical terms and is a prerequisite for many other courses and medical certificate programs.

In this 48 contact-hour online course, students will learn medical terminology by analyzing the prefix, suffix, work roots, and combinations used in medical terms. This course is for students who want to understand basic medical terms and is a prerequisite for many other medical courses and medical certificate programs.
