CPT & HCPCS Coding Online

This online course provides a basic understanding of the principles and guidelines used in CPT and HCPCS coding--the coding procedures used to bill for procedures and services performed by physicians and facilities. Prerequisites: high school diploma/GED; anatomy & physiology and medical terminology (both with a minimum grade of C). Mandatory on-campus orientation and final exam at Northeast Campus.

 

CPT and HCPCS Coding

This course provides a basic understanding of the principles and guidelines used in CPT and HCPCS coding--the coding procedures used to bill for procedures and services performed by physicians and facilities. Prerequisites: high school diploma/GED; anatomy & physiology and medical terminology (both with a minimum grade of C).

 

Certified Professional Coder Exam Preparation

The purpose of this course is to prepare the student to sit for the American Academy of Professional Coders Exam (AAPC). The exam tests the student's knowledge of ICD-9, CPT and HCPCS coding in a physician office or outpatient setting. This course will go over the different coding books (ICD-9, CPT and HCPCS), teaching the layout of each book and ensuring that the student knows how to use each. Please note that the AAPC does not recognize anyone with less than one year of coding experience as a CPC if they pass the exam. These individuals are recognized as CPC-A (Certified Procedural Coder-Apprentice) for one year and at the end of one year when membership is renewed they obtain their regular CPC certification. PREREQUISITE - Coding courses and/or coding experience.

 

ICD-9 Coding

This class teaches the guides for International Classification of Diseases (ICD)--a standardized coding system which correlates diseases and diagnosis and is necessary for anyone working in medical records, patient billing and insurance forms, and admitting. Prerequisite: high school diploma/GED; medical terminology, anatomy & physiology (both with a minimum grade of C).

Medical Billing

This class teaches students how to enhance reimbursement and become proficient in billing in a healthcare setting. Clinical and legal issues are included. Prerequisites: Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Terminology, CPT and HCPCS Coding and ICD-9 Coding (all with minimum grade of C).

 

Medical Billing Online

This class teaches the student how to be proficient in billing in a healthcare setting and how to enhance reimbursement. Clinical and legal issues are included. Prerequisites: CPT and HCPCS Coding and ICD-9 Coding (all with minimum grade of C). Mandatory orientation on campus and final exam (Harbison).
