Introduction to Medical Transcription

This course provides an overview of basic skills necessary to be successful in the Medical Transcription field, includes instruction in terminology, pharmacology, laboratory terms, quality, medical and legal issues. Students must receive at least a C in this course to advance to Medical Transcription I. Prerequisite: high school diploma/GED and Medical Terminology with a minimum grade of C. Must be able to type at least 55 WPM.

 

Medical Transcription I Online

This class instructs students through the use of letters, memos, and medical reports. Textbook and headset available at Airport Campus bookstore. Prerequisite: Anatomy & Physiology, Intro to Medical Transcription - both with a minimum grade of 'C'. Students must achieve a 'C' in this course to proceed to Medical Transcription II. Must be able to type at least 55 WPM. Mandatory on campus orientation and final (Harbison).

 

Medical Transcription II

This course builds on the knowledge acquired in Med Transcription I. Students transcribe from more diverse documents such as: medical histories, physician consultations, discharge summaries, operative and x-ray reports. Prerequisite: Medical Transcription I with a minimum grade of C. Must be able to type at least 55 WPM.

 

Medical Transcription Internship

This is a 36-hour course in which students employ their medical transcription skills in a various medical office facilities. Specialty areas include: Health Documentation Specialist, pathology, radiology, and a medical transcription service. Students must be available to attend some morning hours for this rotation.

Anatomy & Physiology

This 48-hour all lecture course is a general introduction to the anatomy and physiology of the human body. This course is a prerequisite for many other courses and certificate programs.

 

Anatomy & Physiology Online

This 48 contact-hour all lecture course is a general introduction to the anatomy and physiology of the human body. This course is a prerequisite for many other courses and certificate programs. Must have PC availabiltiy.

 

Medical Terminology

Students will learn medical terminology by analyzing the prefix, suffix, word roots, and combinations used in medical terms. This course is for students who want to understand basic medical terms and is a prerequisite for many other courses and medical certificate programs.

 

Medical Terminology Online

In this 48 contact-hour online course, students will learn medical terminology by analyzing the prefix, suffix, work roots, and combinations used in medical terms.
