Over the next five years, there will be a need for 2,500 new employees in alternate energy, such as the skilled crafts technicians, welders and electricians needed by Chicago Bridge and Iron to build new nuclear plants. Companies like Michelin and the new Nephron pharmaceutical facility in Lexington County will need 2,000 employees in advanced manufacturing.
Right now in central South Carolina, there is a need for nearly 2,900 information technology workers at companies like BlueCross and BlueShield. That number will only increase.
Companies like Lexington Medical Center, Palmetto Health and Providence Hospitals will need 4,600 additional technical employees over the next five years.
